IRVINE, Calif., August 1, 2012- Brendan Reilly, West Coast Business Development Director at EON Reality, recently spoke to students and faculty members at the STEM Summer Passport Event on July 26, 2012 at Los Angeles Harbor College.  Reilly’s presentation addressed the availability of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) opportunities for today’s students, the importance of creating student engagement in science and technology based focus areas, and EON Reality’s efforts to push teaching methodologies to the next level in K-12 classrooms.

There is a major disconnect that exists between today’s youth and the desire to become involved within STEM related fields.  Reilly discussed how EON Reality’s virtual 3D learning tools such as EON Creator, a 3D authoring tool that allows users to create interactive 3D lessons, and the EON Experience portal, an online library containing thousands of 3D models and scenes, can help build engagement among students and improve learning retention within the classroom.  The event itself was the culmination of the STEM Summer Academy program, a 2 week series which gave students the opportunity to experience what it’s like to study specific majors such as Math, Architecture, Engineering, Physics/Chemistry, Computer Science, and Biology.  Students researched different career options, then took an assessment personality test to examine what career path would be right for them. Following the program students will be placed in a cohort of 40 students and will finish their math transfer requirement one year earlier than the regular student. They will have the support of faculty, counselors, staff, and their own class learning coach to help them through their journey.

According to Reilly, “many students give up on their dreams of becoming Engineers, Chemists, or Biologists, due to their fear of Math. The STEM program will give students the tools and skills they will need to succeed in their college career.”
