IRVINE, Calif., May 19, 2011 – EON Reality, the world’s leading provider of interactive 3D solutions and virtual reality technologies for business and education, is hosting a series of Career Exploration Days for over 180 students from Orange County high schools. The first event included 60 students from Katella High School on April 28, 2011 at EON’s headquarters in Irvine, CA.  Future events will be held on June 7th and 9th.  The events are sponsored by Vital Link Orange County, a non-profit organization that provides experiences, resources and tools to assist students with identifying their career options and selecting a career by choice, not chance.

With EON’s interactive 3D technology solutions, computer-based visualization content is used to create a vivid illusion of reality so that users can virtually see objects and experience complex concepts and/or processes in a three-dimensional, interactive environment.  Students attending the Career Exploration Day learned the various uses of these technology solutions and the high-demand career options for developing interactive 3D visualization content.

The Career Exploration Day kicked off with a presentation by Kathy Johnson, Executive Director of VitalLinkOrangeCounty.  Ms. Johnson emphasized the need for students to explore career options, described various resources that students can use for this process, and showed short videos of students describing what inspired them to select their career choices.  Through presentations and demonstrations by EON Reality staff, students discovered how various industries and education are using interactive 3D.  Students also experienced the latest advances in interactive 3D technologies – such as gesture-based, augmented reality, holographic and immersive environments.

«Everyday use of 3D has now become a reality,» said Marly Bergerud, Vice President of Education for EON Reality, «but there is a lack of a trained workforce skilled in developing the interactive 3D visualization content that business and education continue to demand.  Students have an immense career opportunity by choosing any one of many aspects of interactive 3D as a career path.»  Ms. Bergerud discussed with the students the specific skills needed for a career in 3D content development.  Students then met, talked with and observed modelers and developers at work creating the 3D content.

«Our visit to EON Reality was such an eye opening experience for my students,» said Diana Fujimoto, Instructor of the visiting Katella students.  «It was the perfect combination of information, demonstration, and hands-on activity…the virtual rollercoaster was a big hit!  My students left feeling motivated and excited about all the career options they’d be able to explore.  This was definitely one of the best field trips I have ever taken a group of students to.»

Kathy Johnson explained «There is nothing more exciting than watching when a young person has a ‘light bulb moment!’  It is that moment in time when they discover how to take their talents and passions and connect it to a career direction.   It is through the support of industry representatives like EON Reality that opportunities are provided for students to Explore, Discover, and Connect with their potential future careers.  When a student is self-directed towards their future career, ‘school’ takes on a new dimension and the likelihood of dropping out is reduced.»
