EON Reality, the global leader in augmented and virtual reality skill and knowledge transfer solutions for academic and industry purposes, is proud to announce the release of EON-XR’s 9.0 update. The new version includes the addition of some major requested features, as well as improvements on old ones.

Interactive VR Environments

EON-XR has long provided users with lifelike 3D models and 360° environments for users, but the new and improved interactive VR environments combine the best of both worlds. Users are now able to walk around immersive digital environments and interact with numerous 3D objects within the space.

Through these new environments — particularly when using the Oculus Quest 2 — individual lessons and experiences can now feature multiple objects and models. Considering that each of these assets can still be examined, explained, and extrapolated on, bringing multiples into a single environment can turn each lesson into a full class. Whether it’s walking through a step-by-step explanation of a medical process within a hospital room or exploring ancient ruins, having multiple points of interest in each environment provides a more robust and immersive experience than ever before.

Full Unity Crossover

The release of EON-XR 9.0 also brings with it the full power of the Unity engine for devices of all types. Previously only available within VR headsets, the latest version of EON-XR brings the photorealistic visuals and capabilities of Unity to all platforms. As will be shown at the XR in Active Learning event, this development improves the look, feel, and functionality of EON-XR for the vast majority of its user base.

Not only does Unity provide a significantly faster, smoother, and better-looking experience on smartphones, tablets, and computers, but it also opens up entirely new possibilities for users. In addition to the visual improvements such as physics-based rendering, real-time shadows, HDR reflections and screen space ambient occlusion, iPhones now support markerless AR features while Homido users can experience full stereoscopic 360° video.

All users will also see the new and improved user interface (which provides an improved animation panel, stability, and speeds of up to triple what they were for loading and rendering) along with updates to multi-user functionality and automatic calibration for VR mode.

As always, EON-XR 9.0 includes some additional small tweaks and stability improvements, but make sure to register now for next month’s XR in Active Learning event for another massive reveal of impressive new features.
