Recent developments in 3D Virtual and Augmented Reality have stimulated innovation and creativity within healthcare training and education.

Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality have taken safety and hands-on learning to the clinical level. Being among the largest industries using simulation, the Healthcare and Lifescience industries are implementing the technology for surgery simulation, patient rehabilitation, phobia treatment, robotic surgery, and skills training.

ADDRESSING THE SHORTFALL OF OPHTHALMOLOGISTS WORLDWIDE: The EyeSim is an ophthalmic virtual simulator for educators to utilize in a classroom for knowledge transfer and for learners to achieve mastery learning through deliberate practice.

EON Reality’s Virtual Reality simulations enable training and learning virtually rather on patients, and provide more of an in-depth, hands on learning experience. Users may «fly» through the human heart or lungs, and even envisage real patient imagery in 3D.

In 2013, EON Reality installed its 4-wall Icube at the Psychotherapy Department of the Babes Bolyai University (BBU) in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. A study was conducted for a Virtual Reality-based psychotherapy project, studying online therapy for social anxiety and computer mediated psychological interventions in child and adolescent anxiety disorders. Professor, Ph.D., Daniel David, at the International Institute for the Advanced Studies of Psychotherapy and Applied Mental Health at BBU, utilized EON Reality’s immersive EON Icube environment throughout a project to examine the efficacy of Virtual Reality treatments over more traditional methods of psychotherapy. Almost any physiological model or clinical environment can be created to support the education of healthcare professionals – at any level of training. These include offering medical trainees and professionals alike, the potential to rehearse surgical procedures prior to the actual operation.
