SINGAPORE, August 29, 2011 – Eng Tat KHOO, R&D Director at EON Reality Pte Ltd, has been selected as one of the Dragon 100 Young Chinese Leaders. This year’s forum was held from 24 July to 1 August 2011 in Hong Kong and Taiwan. The theme is « Caring about the Poor – Today and Tomorrow. »
Dragon 100 is an annual event where 100 ethnic Chinese leaders of tomorrow come together to discuss pertinent global issues and explore the social affair, economic development, Chinese history, culture and tradition. The young leaders must have demonstrated leadership skills, academic prowess and a commitment to the community. The selection process has been competitive, with nominations from universities, organizations and corporations from 18 geographical locations around the world.
« I am honored to be selected. There is a diverse group of delegates with very impressive background and professional practice. We exchanged views and perspectives on various social issues, while at the same time engaged in rich cultural exchange, » said Eng Tat. There were students from top universities like Cambridge, Oxford, Stanford and Yale, and professionals like doctors, lawyers, engineers and architects. The delegates also participated in a community service work and joined the World Vision Taiwan 30 hour famine program, in response to humanitarian crisis around the world.
According to Eng Tat, « Personally, the highlight of the forum was performing the dragon dance during the World Vision 30 hour famine program in Taipei. As a team, we spent two days putting together a 210 meters long dragon, yes it is huge, and practice the dance under the guidance of a dragon master from Hong Kong. It was a magical experience bringing the dragon to life in a hall with over 20,000 in the audience. Furthermore, that was my first time performing a dragon dance! »
Dragon dance is a form of traditional performance in Chinese culture. Many Chinese people often use the term « Descendants of the Dragon » as a sign of ethnic identity.
