IRVINE, Calif., May 18, 2011 – EON Reality, the world’s leading interactive 3D solutions provider of virtual reality technologies for business and education, hosted an Interactive 3D Education Strategies Summit for educators on May 6, 2011 at EON’s headquarters in Irvine, CA.

With EON’s interactive 3D technology solutions, computer-based visualization content is used to create a vivid illusion of reality so that users can virtually see objects and experience complex concepts and/or processes in a three-dimensional, interactive environment.  Educators attending the Summit (from community colleges, universities, and industries) learned how these technology solutions can be used to meet the needs of today’s learners in more effective ways and with better outcomes.

Through presentations and demonstrations by EON representatives, educators discovered how new trends in interactive 3D technology are impacting education and how various industries such as energy and aerospace are now using this technology.  Additionally, Kevin Faul, Vice President of Business Development for RealD Pro, discussed the recent changes in 3D display technologies suitable for educational applications.  Educators also experienced the latest advances in interactive 3D technologies – such as gesture-based, augmented reality, and immersive environments – and how today’s learners become engaged in their learning like never before.

“The ‘reality’ that arises through the engaging digital experiences will soon be an integral part of our everyday lives,” said Marly Bergerud, President of Strategic Alliance Solutions and Vice President of Education for EON Reality, as she presented seven tangible steps for educators to implement interactive 3D technologies within their many educational settings.  Educators also learned how specific colleges and universities in North America have developed interactive 3D strategies that place them in the forefront of educational innovation.  One such example of interactive 3D implementation in education was presented by Jamie Justice, Director of Visualized Learning and Innovation for the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS).  Mr. Justice also discussed how “faculty innovation leaders” from KCTCS’s 16 colleges are identifying learning challenges and innovative technologies to support new programs, reduce costs, and provide faculty with new solutions for blended, online, or face-to-face instruction.

“Given the limited resources today that most educators experience, it was so helpful to learn the specific steps that anyone can take to move forward with implementing this amazing interactive technology for our students,” said Jillian Johnson-Sharp, Coordinator Curriculum & Instruction, Central County R.O.P., Orange County Department of Education.  We certainly need these kinds of technologies to more effectively engage and retain students, as well as to enhance the teaching and learning process.  Plus, teaching people the software skills necessary to develop the much needed interactive content will also provide a skilled workforce and create jobs.  Experiencing these interactive technologies first-hand makes it clear why we must use it for education.”
