Prof Rensburg brings extensive experience in academia and guided the University of Johannesburg through its formative years.

Prof Rensburg’s deep experience in African education and his experience in improving access to education will be a great aid to EON Reality Education as it works to expanding Augmented and Virtual Reality based education globally. Prof Ihron Rensburg served as the Vice Chancellor and Principal of the University of Johannesburg (UJ) from 2006 to 2017. He was instrumental in guiding the University through its early years after it was formed in 2005 as a merger of the then Rand Afrikaans University (RAU), Technikon Witwatersrand (TWR) and the Soweto Campus of Vista University. Under his stewardship, UJ increased its enrollment from 46,000 to 52,000 and 86% of its student body comes from previously disadvantaged backgrounds. University of Johannesburg is now a leading African university with global stature and is ranked fifth among Africa’s universities, and ranked within the top 2% percent of universities in the world (2017/8 Shanghai Academic Ranking of Universities).
