Located in Cape Town, South Africa, this IDC will support research initiatives within the University and regional knowledge transfer needs

IRVINE, CA, July 20th, 2017 – EON Reality Inc., the world leader in Virtual Reality based knowledge transfer for industry and education, announces a partnership with the University of the Western Cape (UWC) to establish an Interactive Digital Center (IDC), that will serve students at UWC, Cape Town, and the broader region. The IDC will help UWC strengthen Augmented and Virtual Reality classes offered on campus as well as add EON-XR lessons and applications to their current curriculum.

The IDC is part of the University of the Western Cape’s commitment to research and furthering the University’s goals of educational research, specifically into open educational resources. In particular, UWC’s mission to ‘Assist educationally disadvantaged students gain access to higher education and succeed in their studies’ lines up with EON Reality’s belief that “Knowledge is a Human Right.”

UWC Vice-Chancellor, Professor Tyrone Pretorius stated that UWC is “very excited about the partnership with EON Reality as it supports the University’s broader goal of integrating and embedding UWC’s intellectual endeavour with new digital and multimedia production capabilities in order to enhance the learning experience of students whilst nurturing a new generation of scholars and practitioners.”

The IDC will provide much needed Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality infrastructure to the region to help local corporate partners utilize the technology but also build the foundation for an advanced digital economy. Also, EON Entrepreneur School will train new Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality professionals to grow the local VR/AR economy and empower graduates to start their own VR and AR companies.

“The legacy of the University of the Western Cape and their history of serving the disadvantaged aligns with EON Reality’s core mission and our EON Human 2.0 Initiative,” said Dan Lejerskar, Founder of EON Reality. “We seek to empower people around the world through experiential learning and real time contextual knowledge. Access to knowledge is a key differentiator in the global economy and is key to prosperity.”

The partnership with UWC is EON Reality’s third IDC in Africa, joining the Mauritius and Tshwane IDCs. It also joins EON Reality’s global distribution and development network with locations in Asia, the Americas, Europe, Africa, and Oceania. This IDC will open its doors in the second quarter of 2018 and the EON Entrepreneur School will begin accepting applications at the end of 2017.
