Victory-Peace Monument, Canada

At water’s edge, a permanent war memorial was built in 1995, the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II, known as the “Victory-Peace Monument”.

The memorial is in a circle of concrete on the ground. In the center of the circle is a brass disk 5.6 metres (18 ft) in diameter with the words “1939 1945 PEACE” inscribed and the word peace etched into the disk in other languages. The circle is bounded by a rim of concrete steps. Six of the steps have black granite blocks about 60 centimetres (24 in) by 67 centimetres (26 in). Each block is etched with words or artwork relevant to the war. There are two sets of bronze walls, arranged like ship prows. Between the walls are maple leaves. One is engraved “Sacrifice”. The walls surrounding it has artwork depicting information about Canada’s involvement in World War II.[15] The monument was designed by artist John McEwan. It was dedicated by Canadian Governor-General Romeo LeBlanc on November 14, 1995.

Mug House of Mesa Verde

Each year, hundreds of thousands of visitors go to see the majesty of Mesa Verde National Park. But only a select few get to tour breathtaking backcountry dwellings rarely seen by the public.

In the southwest corner of Colorado, Mesa Verde is home to some of the best-preserved Ancestral Pueblo cliff dwellings in the country. In 1906, Mesa Verde became the 10th national park — and the first in the world to “preserve the works of man.”

The park’s ruins are an amazing testament to humanity’s ingenuity in overcoming hardships of the unforgiving Four Corners region.

While the park protects over 5,000 known archaeological sites and 600 cliff dwellings, only five dwellings are open to the public. Most visitors don’t know that there’s a series of special guided backcountry hikes to archaeological sites. These are normally off-limits to the public, and the park doesn’t even advertise them. The Museum Etnològic del Montseny, Gabella, Spain is a center for the exhibition, conservation, dissemination and research of the cultural heritage of the Massís del Montseny, which is installed in a building of the 18C (1800m2) completely restored and adapted, located in the center of Arbúcies.

The permanent exhibition halls show the material testimonies of the communities that have populated the massif throughout its history.
