Engineering MRO

In this application example, we’ll delve into the aerospace, construction and manufacturing categories to take a look at Maintenance Repair and Operations (MRO). Constructed and recorded with EON-XR’s 9.0 update, this quick video will show the breadth of possibilities available within our flagship solution. See the simple, smooth, and efficient process of turning real life objects and surroundings into digital XR assets for use in EON-XR in seconds before building complex and immersive lessons in mere minutes. With an abundance of creation features, language and regional settings, and premade assets and lessons, let this example demonstrate exactly what you could be doing with EON-XR.

Maintenance Repair and Operations (MRO) is the industry that handles spares and industry supplies that are needed for segments such as bearings and power transmission products, electrical supplies, fasteners, lubricants, filters, PVF, fluid power, safety supplies, HVAC, plumbing, etc., which are used in multiple industries. MRO plays an important role in ensuring supply chains run without problems.

Operating a Fracking Blender in Immersive AR/VR

EON Reality now provides a realistic onboarding experience by allowing trainees to operate a life-sized fracking blender in a AR/VR environment.

The average fracking blenders weighs about 55,000 pounds and stretching up to 4 metres. Training on a real fracking blender can be difficult given its size and complexity, but we have found the solution.

Using this lesson, trainees can now be acquainted with a desk to life-sized fracking blender directly from their smart phones or desktop. Complete with annotations, memos, practical demonstrations and quizzes created by the instructor, the length of the trainee onboarding journey is significantly reduced by up to 75%.

Our findings are supported by a  PwC report which showed that virtual reality can help business leaders upskill their employees faster, even at a time when training budgets may be shrinking and in-person training may be off the table, as people continue to observe social distancing.

Understanding the Centrifugal Pump in AR and VR

Learn how engineering students are successfully using AR and VR to understand the workings of the centrifugal pump in a  lesson directly from their phone. The centrifugal pump is one of the most widely used pieces of equipment found in industry. Despite this, an engineering student often completes his course of study with only the vaguest idea about the selection and performance of pumps of both the centrifugal and axial flow types.

In this lesson created for the course in fluid mechanics, students are now introduced to the fundamentals of the centrifugal pump in an instructor led, hands on lesson. Complete with annotation, voice memos, animation and dissectable parts, the students can now learn how centrifugal pumps perform under the various load conditions. This lesson also serves an example of an effective use of VR and AR for visualizing phenomena through simulation for deeper understanding.

Developed as part of the Self-Directed Learning Initiative, this lesson module is part of the 20,000 lessons developed for 141 disciplines by the faculty and students of University for Business and Technology in Kosovo. These lessons have also been deployed as part of the blended learning approach adopted by the University, integrating the principles of active learning in a remote classroom environment.

Train Safely on the Virtual Lathe Machine

EON XR is now revolutionising technical training, allowing students to train safely on the lathe machine directly from their phones in a virtual environment.

The lathe, an integral machine tool in woodturning, metal working, glass working and thermal spraying forms the fundamentals of industrial production.

In this series of lessons developed by University for Business and Technology, students learn first hand  how to safely operate and adjust machines to cut, shape, and drill.  Utilising hands-on practical training methodology, the lessons offer students an opportunity to acquire an understanding of the different functions and the safety and maintenance procedures associated with a lathe machine.

Upon completion of the course, students are expected to master lathe engine fundamentals and be able to perform key internal machining operations on the lathe.

Hydrogen Engine

EON XR provides users with countless virtual education solutions, this application focuses on the parts and function of a hydrogen engine. Users are able to explore, inspect and learn about hydrogen engines through the augmented and virtual reality experience. The application provides an AR and VR based model, allowing users to pull apart the engine by each working component. Users can also view and create lessons for personal, classroom or work environments.

What’s the Diff? The Function of the Differential Gearbox

What is a differential gearbox and what do they do? And how do the individual parts actually do their job? In this lesson, students are introduced to an important engineering element in AR/VR—the differential gearbox.

As part of a lesson series created by the University for Business and Technology, this interactive 3D lesson module on EON-XR distills  a complex topic into an easily understandable visual lesson. Starting with a visual introduction of why a differential is necessary, it allows a student to easily process what’s going on underneath the skin of the car. While there are a handful of different kinds of differentials in use today, the underlying principal remains the same for mechanical differentials.

At the end of the lesson, students are able to

1. Identify the components and explain the functions and the maintenance procedures for differentials

2. Identify differential design variations.

3. Describe the principles of the  differential.

4. Understand basic service and repair of a differential.

This lesson was created as part of the EON Reality Self-Directed Learning initiative at the University for Business and Technology, allowing for deeper learning through immersion and student created content.

How Does a Four Stroke Engine Work?

A four stroke engine is a very common variation of an internal combustion engine. Most modern internal combustion-powered vehicles are four strokes, powered by either gasoline or diesel fuel. During engine operation, pistons go through four events to achieve each power cycle. The definition of an event is an up or down piston motion. Upon completion of the four events, the cycle is complete and ready to begin again.

What are the four events?

  1. Intake stroke: The piston moves downward to the bottom, this increases the volume to allow a fuel-air mixture to enter the chamber.
  2. Compression stroke: The intake valve is closed, and the piston moves up the chamber to the top. This compresses the fuel-air mixture. At the end of this stroke, a spark plug provides the compressed fuel with the activation energy required to begin combustion.
  3. Power Stroke: As the fuel reaches the end of it’s combustion, the heat released from combusting hydrocarbons increases the pressure which causes the gas to push down on the piston and create the power output.
  4. Exhaust stroke: As the piston reaches the bottom, the exhaust valve opens. The remaining exhaust gas is pushed out by the piston as it moves back upwards.
Understanding how this  engine works and knowing some key related parts and terminology is important for working on any vehicle. In this lesson created by University for Business and Technology, students are introduced to basic four stroke  engine parts, theory and terminology and understand the operating principles of four stroke internal combustion engines.
