The partnership will establish an Interactive Digital Center at the School of Computing and Engineering as a resource for students and local entrepreneurs.

EON Reality, the world leader in augmented and virtual reality-based knowledge transfer for industry and education, together with University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) School of Computing and Engineering, will establish an Interactive Digital Center (IDC) in Kansas City, Missouri. The IDC will build on the growing technology and virtual reality education happening at the city’s only accredited school for engineering and computer science and contribute to businesses in the area.

Housed in the new Robert W. Plaster Free Enterprise and Research Center, the School of Computing and Engineering’s Innovation Center provides the UMKC campus and Kansas City community access to $3 million worth of new augmented and virtual reality equipment and training.

“Augmented and virtual reality are starting to take hold in the United States and many companies are incorporating virtual and augmented reality into their operations. We invite corporate partners and community members to come in for industry-specific training using the equipment we have in our AR/VR lab. Technology is constantly changing the way we work and live, so we believe it is vital to stay on the leading edge of technological capabilities.”

Kevin TrumanDean of the School of Computing and Engineering

“The Interactive Digital Center supports the UMKC community and greater Kansas City entrepreneurial ecosystem by promoting research, innovation and entrepreneurship.”

Christina DavisIDC Director

The IDC will contain a VR Innovation Academy, as well as a development lab for both students and local entrepreneurs. The academy will equip students with the skills needed to be successful in creating augmented and virtual reality content and applications for industry, and provide training with focuses in similar fields, while the development lab offers access to world-class AR and VR technology ranging from wearable devices to large-scale immersive showrooms

“We are excited to add to the already stellar reputation of the UMKC School of Computing and Engineering. By teaching their students how to use and develop augmented and virtual reality content, we will be opening up the technology to future generations of businesses and individuals throughout the Kansas City area. This is a great step toward EON Reality’s goal to expand learning opportunities in XR.”

Dan LejerskarChairman of EON Reality

The first courses at the VR Innovation Academy are coming in 2021. For more information, please visit the School of Computing and Engineering website.
